Qaumee Party requests Speaker to resume Parliament sessions

The only Member of Parliament (MP) of Qaumee Party (QP), Vilufushi MP Riyaz Rasheed has sent a letter to the Speaker of Parliament Abdullah Shahid requesting for the resumption of Parliament sessions as soon as possible.

Through the letter, Riyaz expressed concern on behalf of the majority parties of the Parliament, over the disruption of the legislative body of the State as a result of pressure by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

The letter noted that disruption of the Parliament is against the principles of democracy, and requested the Speaker to notify the Commonwealth, CMAG and IPU of the current situation in the Maldives.

Riyaz highlighted in his letter that the work of the Parliament Committees have also been halted; and as the legislations required to control the terrorism activities currently ongoing in Male’ are stuck at the Committee level, he requested the Speaker to resume the Parliament sessions as soon as possible.
