National Disaster Management Center (NDMC) has said that ten atolls have filed reports this morning following the effects of sea swells during the ongoing torrential rain across the country.
And so from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., reports of sea wells were reported from Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, Haa Alifu atoll, Haa Dhaalu atoll, Shaviyani atoll, Raa atoll, Alifu Dhaalu atoll, Faafu atoll, Dhaalu atoll, Thaa atoll and Laamu atoll. The NDMC said that they also received reports of swelling from six islands in the Thaa atoll. And the sea wall of Alifu Dhaalu atoll Maamigili is also damaged.
The MET Office said today that the torrential rains across the southern atolls are being caused by a storm 1000 kilometers south of Addu City and with extremely rough seas, swells are expected during high tide for the next 24 hours.
High tide for the northern atolls are expected around 4:58 p.m. while the central atolls would have high tide around 5:39 p.m. and 6:42 for southern atolls.
High tide times for tomorrow (23 April 2018):
Southern Atolls: 6:10 am and 8:38 p.m.
Northern Atolls: 3:42 a.m. and 6:13 p.m.
Central Atolls: 4:50 a.m. and 7:10 p.m.
