Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom currently detained under terrorism suspicion has said that doctors have informed him that being alone all day and all night is a health risk at his age.

The now 80-year-old former President had a hearing in one of the two charges against him today at the Criminal Court. Closing the hearing after giving ten days to appoint an attorney, Judge Adam Areef gave the former President to make a statement.

At the opportunity, Maumoon requested that he be released or transferred to house arrest due to his health condition.

Judge Areef said that the documents show that Maumoon is detained on another case and he would review the documents of that case and make a decision.
