Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon, held in Dhoonidhoo Custodial for investigation into complicity in an attempt to stage a coup, was taken to Male’ City for an x-ray of his shoulder last Saturday night.
Faris is the son of former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom – who has also been detained for attempting a coup.
Secretary-General of Maumoon’s faction, Abdul Aleem reported that Faris was transported to Male’ City at approximately 11:30 pm. Aleem said Faris had his x-ray taken from Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.
A video of Faris at the IGMH has gone viral on social media. The video shows Faris with a support bandage on his right-side shoulder, surrounded by Special Operations police officers wearing balaclavas.
Meanwhile, Faris’ attorney Maumoon Hameed has filed a case with the Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM), alleging Faris was injured when officers attempted to forcefully remove him from his cell on Saturday,
Public Relations Officer at HRCM, Hawwa Wajudha Qasim confirmed the case is under investigation by the commission.
