The Parliament has held a special session to extend the duration of applicability of 47 regulations which come under chapters 1 and 2 of the General Regulations Act, which lose statutory basis tonight at 00:00.
The extension was passed unanimously with the votes of the 49 MPs present at today’s session.
Durations were extended for all but five regulations requested for by the Parliament Regulation Committee. Durations have been extended on two previous occasions for the same regulations, because the regulations had not been completed by the Regulation Committee.
The Regulation Committee’s report was presented by Chairman of the Committee Naifaru MP Ahmed Mohamed.
The regulations in question relate to basic and civil rights stipulated in the Constitution, such as those pertaining to establishing justice, those necessary to regulate the economic, social and educational sectors; as well as the regulation on political parties.
