Home Ministry’s spokesperson arrested

Spokesperson at Ministry of Home Affairs, Thamzeel Abdul Samad has been arrested.

“Sun” has been informed Thamzeel was arrested at approximately 11 pm last Friday night.

The charges on Thamzeel are unclear at this point.

Police have made no official comment on the arrest yet.

A number of suspects – including judges and top politicans – have been arrested for investigation into the recent attempt to overthrow President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration.

Minister of Tourism Moosa Zameer’s bodyguard Ahmed Shaneez and Simad Ahmed – who worked as bodyguard for former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed have also been arrested.

The former Commander of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) – run under Special Operations (SO) of the police, Hussain Saif has also been arrested.
