PPM: No loss even if parliament doesn't agree with the resolution

Governing party, PPM, has said that they have no concerns about the parliament rejecting the resolution for the State of Emergency.

Speaking at a PPM press conference today, the Vice President of the party, Abdul Raheem Abdulla said that the President will not suffer a loss if the parliament pass the resolution or not.

He said that when the duration of the state of emergency expires, the President has the authority to declare a state of emergency again.

According to Article 257-B of the Constitution, the parliament reserves the right to cancel or extend the state of emergency by less than 30 days each the parliament passes the resolution or a portion of it.

And a vote on the resolution cannot be taken without 43 MPs at the parliament as the state of emergency is a public order. The Constitution decrees that over half of the parliament must be present if the parliament is making a decision on an order on the public.
