Supreme Court has annulled its ban on Civil Court Judge Mariyam Waheed and instructed her to return to work.
“Sun” has been informed Supreme Court annulled its ban on Mariyam last Wednesday. She was instructed to return to work staring this Thursday.
“Sun” has been informed Mariyam is currently on emergency leave, and will be returning to work next week.
Mariyam was banned from working at any court in Maldives following a complaint filed by the former Attorney General’s Office. The Supreme Court issued its ban in February, 2017.
The ban was issued after Mariyam ruled the State must sign an agreement to lease V. Bodumohoraa for development as a tourist resort within seven days, despite Supreme Court’s determination that the State had the right to deliberate on the lease agreement and that there was no legal basis to make it compulsory for the State to sign the agreement.
The ban marked the first time for a court order to be issued against a judge in Maldives.
