Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon has been released from detention at Dhoonidhoo Prison.
Faris’ attorney, Hussain Shameem confirmed Faris was released this Tuesday morning.
Shameem said there was no guarantee Faris won’t be re-arrested, despite his release from custody.
Faris was arrested on January 27, two days after he was granted conditional release after having already spent months in detention. He was remanded to 15 days in detention by the Criminal Court on January 28.
He has been charged with bribing fellow parliaments in order to illegally overthrow the government.
Faris is among the nine political leaders whose immediate release the Supreme Court ordered on February 1. The State has not enforced the Supreme Court order, and Faris’ release this Tuesday comes after Criminal Court released its order for a 15-day extension to his remand.
