Two people in the employment of the former President, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has been arrested for attempting a coup d'etat by bribing MPs.
Maldives Police Service executed a court order today arresting Najuma Ibrahim, an employee at Maumoon's office and Mohamed Azumee, a member of Maumoon's security detail.
Police are conducted searches at their residences in Male' City as well.
Sun Media has received a copy of the court order to arrest Azumee.
According to the court order, he is suspected of bribing MPs with money and working with MPs to overthrow the current government by working outside the law and said that he is to be taken into custody since it may affect the investigation.
Articles of the Constitution and the Penal Code were quoted on the court order.
