Criminal Court has made the decision to hold this Tuesday’s trial in the bribery and graft charge against former Vice President and Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor behind closed doors.
The hearing was scheduled for 11 am.
Criminal Court has not disclosed a reason why the media has been barred from the hearing, but the decision was reportedly made at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
“Sun” has been informed Adeeb was charged with bribery for allegedly bribing police officers working at the intelligence department of Maldives Police Service, and charged with graft for using the influence of his position as Vice President to bribe intelligence officers for personal gain.
Adeeb was pressed with nine charges in the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) embezzlement scandal trial in 2017. The trial is ongoing in the case.
He has already been sentenced to 33 years in prison.
