President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyom has called to those in the employment of private companies to join the government if they are not getting paid.
Speaking at a PPM event at the Rumaalu 2 campaign hall tonight, President Yameen expressed concerns over the employees who are being affected by the closing down of business and some resorts when their owners failed to pay taxes.
The President said that employees in those situations have a choice and they can find employment with the government.
President Yameen said that the state companies today are capable.
In his address at the event tonight, President Yameen said that every employee who loses his job at a private company will be given a job opportunity with the government within the same salary range. And the rights of such employees should not be an excuse for the private companies to pay taxes.
The President said that the government aims to get the money owed to the state no matter what.
While the President has made these remarks, Villa Group has recently said that two of their resorts have been forced to close down after their liquor license was suspended by the state. And the employees of the resorts have held rallies protesting it.
Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) file a suite at the Civil Court to get the millions in dollars owed to the state in taxes by the Villa Group.
