High Court southern division judges ordered back to Addu

Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) has ordered the High Court southern division judges to return back to Addu City upon the completion of the duration of their service at Male’ City.

High Court judges stationed at the southern division are:

1. Judge Shujau Usman

2. Judge Abdul Ghanee Mohamed

3. Judge Shuaib Hussain Zakariyya

DJA said the department made arrangements for all three judges to travel back to Addu City last Tuesday. It is not yet clear whether the three judges actually returned back to Addu City as instructed.

The three southern division judges travel to Male’ City to work at the main High Court for the period of three months in September, 2017 at the orders of Supreme Court to deal with a shortage in judges. The duration of their service ended in December.

The shortage in High Court judges remains unresolved. A number of candidates applied for positions at the High Court, but the DJA has not yet disclosed any final decision.
