Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has started a medical internship program at the hospital for students completing their doctorate.
Medical Internship is an obligatory part of the training for medical students.
But with some countries do not provide internship opportunities for Maldivian medical students completing MBBS, the government has helped the students get internships abroad in the past years.
IGMH opened the opportunity for the internship program in the Maldives in November 2017.
Six students studying in Russia, Malaysia, China, Ireland and Ukraine along with a student from Nigeria applied in the first batch.
Speaking at the ceremony to award the certificate of internship yesterday, Health Minister, Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, said that while a medical college is in the works for the Maldives, starting an internship would be a beneficial program.
