A delegation of the European Union has been set to visit the Maldives this Saturday.
The EU mission in Sri Lanka for the Maldives and Sri Lanka said that a delegation of senior officials will be visiting the Maldives on 13 January 2018.
Leading the delegation would be the Deputy Managing Director for Asia at the European External Action Service, Paola Pamaploni. The delegation include the EU Ambassador to the Maldives, Tung-Lai Margue and the Head of EESA-South Asia Division, Caroline Vinot.
On the visit, the EU delgation is set to meet the Home Minister, Foreign Minister, Environment Minister, Fisheries Minister and the Minister of Defence along with the Attorney General and the Speaker of the Parliament.
EU said that the purpose of the visit is to support the talks between the EU and the Maldives.
They would also review the efforts by the Maldives on climate change, environmental protection and anti-terrorism in the region. The EU will also seek information on the current political state of the country.
An EU delegation also made a similar visit in October 2017.
