Indian parliament debates FTA between Maldives and China

Indian Parliament has debated the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between China and the Maldives for a second time.

Indian media outlets have reported that the Indian Parliament discussed the effects of the FTA to India. The debate was led by the National Congress.

The Indian Parliament has previously discussed the FTA in the past as well. Indian media outlets have reported that the agreement could potentially affect the relations between India and the Maldives.

Indian Minister for External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj, has previously said that India has a close relationship with the Maldives.

In a media interview by the Maldives Ambassador to India, he said that India has not presented terms to establish a FTA with the Maldives. And the Maldives would always make agreements that benefits the Maldivian economy.

While the talk of the relations between the two countries have become headlines, the Maldivian Foreign Minister, Dr. Mohamed Asim has start a visit to India today.
