Land reclamation completed for Kulhudhuffushi airport

The land reclamation phase to develop an airport in Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi has been completed.

The project began in November 2017 with the contractor MTCC's new dredger “Mahajaffaar".

Inaugurated by the President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, a total of six hectares were reclaimed from the west side of the island along with six hectares from the island's mangrove.

Managing Director of MTCC, Ahmed Saeed told Sun Media today that the first phase of the reclamation for the airport project has been completed but with some changes made, the sand is still being collected.

Although MTCC has declared completion of the phase, the Kulhudhuffushi Island Council said that the reclamation phase is not complete according to the drawings.

President of the Kulhudhuffushi Island Council, Abdul-Latheef Hassan told Sun Media that the reclamation area from the mangrove is not yet complete. He said that sand has been gathered to reclaim the area.

Tourism Minister, Moosa Zameer has previously said that the Kulhudhuffushi Airport Project will be completed on schedule in the middle of the year.
