A warm welcome to the first tourist of 2018

The first tourist to visit the Maldives this year has received a warm welcome at Velana International Airport.

British citizen, Georgina Halbrook, with her family, arrived in the Maldives this morning on Fly Dubai FZ-559. She became the first tourist of the year by being the first one to get the VISA at the Immigration counter.

She was then invited to the VIP lounge where she was congratulated by the Acting Managing Director of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Haarish Mohamed.

Haarish was accompanied by officials of the Tourism Ministry and the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and welcomed Georgina.

She was presented with a certificate specifying that she was the first tourist to visit the Maldives in 2018 along with a special present and a seven-day holiday package in Maldives inclusive of all domestic flights presented by Furaveri Island Resort.

MMPRC said that up to November 2017, a total of 94,258 tourists from the UK visited the Maldives which is a 1.1 percent increase compared to 2016.

A total of 1.3 million tourists visited the Maldives in 2017. Which is an eight percent increase compared to the previous year.
