President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom re-opened the harbor at B. Kendhoo after repair and launched construction of a water supply system in the island, this Monday.
The Kendhoo Harbor – which was extensively damaged after the tsunami of 2004. Repair work on the harbor was contracted to Capital Investment and Finance Private Limited by the current administration in 2015.
The project was completed and the harbor made operational again in April, this year.
The MVR 29.2 million Kendhoo Harbor is 540-foot long and 180-foot wide. The harbor now has a seawall and the water near the harbor has been dug up an extra 3.5 meters. The area around the harbor has been paved and has light fixtures installed.
KENDHOO WATER SUPPLY PROJECT
The tsunami of 2004 damaged the fresh water layer of Kendhoo. The island, along with other islands in B. Atoll suffered a water shortage due to the disaster.
Construction of a water supply system in Kendhoo was contracted to Mohan Mutha Exports Private Limited in August, 2016.
The project involves establishment of a RO plant and a 50-ton water storage tank in the island.
President Yameen is currently on a tour of islands in N. Atoll, B. Atoll and Lh. Hinnavaru.
