Most of the land needed to construct the airport in H. Dh. Kulhudhuffushi has now been reclaimed and the whole land reclamation project will be completed within one week, says Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
Total 15 hectors of land will be reclaimed for the airport; nine hectors from the island’s mangrove and six hectors from the sea.
General Manager of MTCC, Ahmed Saeed reported this Sunday that 12 hectors of land has now been reclaimed.
“12 hectors of land have now been reclaimed. The remaining three hectors of land will be reclaimed within one week,” said Saeed.
MTCC is reclaiming land in Kulhudhuffushi using its dredger “Mahajaffaar”. The dredger is scheduled to depart for Sh. Funadhoo to reclaim land for the airport which will be built in the island once its work in Kulhudhuffushi is done.
Saeed said the dredger will be in Funadhoo for the project within the first week of coming January.
Work on the bund wall for the land reclamation is currently in progress in Funadhoo.
