Maldivian Ambassador to the United Nations, Dr. Ali Naseer has said that it is a moment for Israel to make a strategic choice to either be choose the civilized side of life or remain isolated.
The UN General Assembly on Thursday opened an emergency session to vote on a motion rejecting US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
In a tweet sent out by the Dr. Naseer yesterday, he said that the international system is based on international law.
"It’s a system in which, nations, from the greatest powers to the micro-states, have all pledged to respect, to defend, & to abide by international law. Israel must be made to implement UNSC Res in full & good faith." Dr. Naseer said on twitter.
While 128 nations voted in favor of UN call for US to withdraw Jerusalem decision, nine countries voted against it. And 35 nations abstained from the vote.
Following the vote, Dr. Naseer said that the center of gravity in international politics is shifting towards the rule of law and "no power is too great to ignore this reality" and "that is the reality that the Res on Status of Jerusalem we adopt today crystalizes."
