Leader of Jumhoory Party, Qasim Ibrahim says he will not let the opposition coalition collapse just because someone with a different view joins JP.
The former Minister of Home Affairs and presidential candidate Umar Naseer joining JP has divided opinions between general members of political parties which are members of the opposition coalition, as well as opposition parliamentarians.
Qasim tweeted last Monday that a certain individual joining JP, or a certain member having a different point of view regarding a certain subject should not affect the opposition coalition – which he said JP joined to reform the country.
“And JP will not let it happen,” said Qasim in his tweet.
Former Maldivian President and former leader of opposition Maldivian Democratic Party, Mohamed Nasheed responded to Qasim’s tweet with a “thank you”.
Even though the founding member has biggest criticism over Umar joining JP has come from MDP members.
Chairperson of MDP, Hassan Latheef has commented that he “will not even let Umar breathe near MDP.”
Meanwhile, Umar has responded to criticism by MDP commenting that he still stood by his earlier decision not to work with MDP. He said he had no intention of doing so.
