Robbers have stolen the safe at the powerhouse in H. A. Molhadhoo.
President of Molhadhoo Council, Mohamed Nisham reported to “Sun” that the safe was stolen sometime between midnight and 6 am this Monday.
Nisham said that according to the powerhouse, the safe contained MVR 38,740 when it was stolen.
He said a team of police officers were at the island to investigate the robbery. He said the safe has now been found, but empty of its contents.
Nishaam said the Molhadhoo powerhouse did not have any security guards, but that staff operated at the powerhouse 24/7.
“Its most likely the safe was stolen at a time when there was no one at the control room,” said Nisham.
Police were unavailable for comment regarding the case.
