Revision proposed to fine named MPs who refuse to leave the Parliament chamber with MVR20,000

Galolhu Dhekunu MP Ahmed Mahloof has proposed a revision to Parliament regulations, to fine MPs who refuse to leave the Parliament chamber after been named for disorderly behavior, with MVR20,000.

The revision also states that the fine must be paid within 7 days, and failure to comply should result in the Speaker of Parliament filing the case to Police.

Mahloof said that the Parliament sessions having to constantly end prematurely due to the actions of a few MPs has adverse effects on the people of Maldives, as it deprives the nation of the necessary legislations.

Parliament Rules of Procedure article 54 (d) states that if unruly MPs refuse to comply after being instructed according to clause (c), the Speaker has the power to name them and order their removal from the chamber.
