Elderly woman found dead on Dhiddhoo beach

An elderly woman has been found dead on the beach of Haa Alifu Dhiddhoo.

Vice President of Dhiddhoo Island Council, Mohamed Haashim told Sun Media today that the elderly woman found dead on the beach was an island resident, Hawwa Ali, of about 70 years of age.

He said that the body was discovered by a group of people who went to the beach area and took her to the hospital. And doctors believe the cause of death to be a heart attack.

Haashim said that the deceased was home at 3 a.m. last night according to the family.

"In the area (where the body was discovered), a relative of her's live. (We) believe she was going there but lost her way and ended up on the beach. There were no external injuries when the body was discovered." Council Vice President said.

He said that the police is investigating the death and the body is currently at the island's funeral home.

Regarding the death of Hawwa Ali, Maldives Police Service said that the discovery of the body of an 80-year-old woman in the water on the east side of Dhiddhoo was reported to the police around 9:10 a.m.

Police said that they have finished the examinations of the body and returned it to the family.
