Three deposed parliamentarians have filed a case with Supreme Court, asking the court to declare the Elections Commission’s decision that rendered them seat-less void.
The three deposed MPs who filed the case are:
- South Machangolhi MP Abdulla Sinan
- South Thinadhoo MP Abdulla Ahmed (Abulho)
- Dhangethi MP Ilham Ahmed
Sinan, Abulho and Ilham requested the Supreme Court to declare both the EC’s declaration they have been deposed, and EC’s announcement for by-elections of their constituencies to be declared void.
Sinan submitted his case to the Supreme Court last Sunday, and Abulho and Ilham submitted their cases last week.
Similar cases were previously filed with the Supreme Court by four more deposed MPs. The Supreme Court had dismissed the cases, saying there was no further decision to be made by the court regarding the issue.
EC has so far announced 12 MPs have been deposed. By-elections for the constituencies have not been held yet.
