Yellow alert on three northern atolls lifted

Maldives Meteorological Service has lifted the yellow alert issued for three northern atolls in Maldives, downgrading it to white alert.

Maldives Meteorological Service issued the yellow alert to the three northern-most atolls – H. A. Atoll, H. Dh. Atoll and Sh. Atoll from 00:15 to 06:15 this Saturday. It has now been downgraded to a white alert – from 06:30 to 12:30.

The service has forecasted heavy rain with average winds of 23 to 29 miles per hour, gusting of 45 miles per hour and high swell waves for the three atolls.

It has warned that though the yellow alert has been lifted, seas will remain rougher than the rest of the country, and the chances of flooding due to sea swelling remained high for the three atolls.

Maldives Meteorological Service has also lifted the white alert issued from N. Atoll to the south of the country.

An official from the service who spoke to “Sun” said winds will vary between 15 to 20 miles per hour for the rest of the country.

Maldives Meteorological Service reports the eye of the storm now lay 120 kilometers away from the Minicoy Islands. It said the storm clouds were expected to pass Maldives sometime during the evening this Saturday.
