Chairperson of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Reeko Moosa Manik has said that the resignation of the President of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission Badr Naseer is a sign that democracy in the Maldives is slowly fading.
Moosa Manik said yesterday that Badr’s resignation statement shows that the officials of the ‘coup’ government are undermining the values of our Constitution, which in turn shows that they are not interested in establishing democracy in the country.
He said that independent institutions are slowly losing all control, and that senior officials of these institutions are leaving because the government’s policies are inimical to democracy.
Reeko Moosa assured that MDP will not tire in its efforts to restore democracy in the Maldives.
Badr said in his resignation statement issued yesterday, that he joined MBC with the hope of serving the nation through his role as a media regulator; however, the opportunities of doing so had been greatly reduced by the current political turmoil in the Maldives.
