250-bed guesthouse project planned for Kaashidhoo

Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITDC) has revealed plans to build guesthouses at K. Kaashidhoo.

Speaking at the press conference held at MITDC this Thursday regarding the Kaashidhoo Guesthouse Project, Managing Director of MITDC, Mohamed Shahid said the project will be run in association with the Ministry of Tourism.

Phase One of the Kaashidhoo Guesthouse Project involves construction of 10 25-room guesthouses.

“This project involves building about 10 guesthouses of about 25-rooms. Total 250 beds will be created at Kaashidhoo under this project,” said Shahid.

Shahid said the project was fully financed by MITDC, and was estimated to cost USD 4 million. He said the opportunity to manage the guesthouses will be provided to interested members of the general public.

MITDC said the corporation was holding discussions with the government to construct support facilities for the guesthouses; including restaurants and water sports facilities.

MITDC was created to promote economic tourism in the country. The corporation recently launched a major integrated guesthouse project at L. Baresdhoo.

The corporation provide assurances the Kaashidhoo Guesthouse Project will be run with the full support of the corporation, and involvement from locals interested in the guesthouse business.

“We are finalizing details of the project. This corporation will be highly involved. We will announce detailed plans, implementation, and information on how locals can participate in the venture on a later date,” said Shahid.

Shahid said the corporation expected to find the land to run the project on, and start construction work within the next six months. He said the corporation was currently doing the last of the paper work needed for the project.
