Court upholds death sentence against accomplice in Hussain Waheed’s murder

High Court has ruled to uphold the death sentence issued by Juvenile Court against an accomplice in the murder of Hussain Waheed from Ma. Aisha at Male’ City in 2013.

Both the murder convict and accomplice were minors at the time.

Hussein Waheed died from stab wounds inflicted by a minor while near his home at approximately 10: 30 pm on December 24, 2013.

High Court ruled this Wednesday that evidence placed the accomplice and other individuals conversing near Ma. Kasmeereege and then going to Coffee Corner – near the victim’s home.

Three witnesses identified the accomplice and said he fled the site with the minor who stabbed Hussain Waheed on the back of his motorcycle.

Witnesses also testified the two men – minors at the time – hid from the authorities after the stabbing.

High Court ruled the stabbing was pre-planned and motivated by revenge against the victim. It ruled the accomplice was found to have committed the murder out of free will, while in stable mental condition.
