High Court orders PSM to reinstate fired reporter

High Court has ordered Public Service Media (PSM) to reinstate Nasrulla Abdulla Haadhy - who was terminated from his post as a newscaster at PSM’s television channel TVM.

High Court issued its ruling this Monday following PSM’s appeal of the Employment Tribunal’s decision regarding the case in June, 2015.

The court ruled Nasrulla was terminated from his post as a newscaster at TVM in violation of Employment Act. It ordered that Nasrulla be reinstated to the post, or a post of equal hierarchy.

PSM has also been ordered to pay Nasrulla salary and increments from the date he was fired, to the date of his reinstatement.

High Court backed Employment Tribunal’s ruling that Nasrulla was terminated from his post illegally, but declared part of the Tribunal’s ruling viod.

The Employment Tribunal had ordered PSM to pay Nasrulla MVR 3,000 in basic salary and MVR 1,500 in food allowance – allocated for employees based in the atolls – for 21 months. A total of MVR 100,800.

Nasrulla was terminated from his post as a newscaster stationed at TVM’s Addu City bureau in February, 2015.
