Tribunal dismisses John Seyfert’s complaint over unpaid salary

Employment Tribunal has dismissed the case filed by US citizen John Seyfert over unpaid salary.

Seyfert had filed a case against Abdul Haseeb Mohamed – whose guesthouse in Hulhumale’ Seyfert invested in, and worked at as an innkeeper. Seyfert filed the lawsuit alleging he wasn’t paid his salary for his work as an innkeeper.

Employment Tribunal said Haseeb denied ever employing Seyfert at the guesthouse.

It said the Article 2 (a) of Employment Act was clear that the Act was applicable only to employers and employees.

It said there wasn’t enough evidence to prove Seyfert was employed by Haseeb.

Seyfert, who had his passport stolen, was deported to the US after Maldives Immigration arrested him as an illegal immigrant.
