MDP commenced protests not because we lost power: Nasheed

Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that MDP commenced its protests not because they lost power, or because they no longer are the ruling party.

Speaking at a function held to launch Raajje TV website, Nasheed said that MDP commenced protests because after the change of government, the values of the Constitution no longer observed.

Nasheed said that if it is up to the Police and MNDF to violate the law and change the government, the government of Maldives can change anytime.

He said that after the election in 2013, the government can be changed in this manner in 2016; and after the election in 2018, the government can be changed in the same way in 2020.

He said that if Maldivians accept this coup government, it would result in a tainted government of Maldives.
