Q3: Complaints filed with ACC plummets

Complaints registered with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in the third quarter of this year shows a sharp decrease.

Statistics released by ACC shows 167 cases were registered with the commission in the third quarter of this year, a sharp decrease compared to the 259 cases registered with the commission in the third quarter of 2016.

The statistics show a total of 593 cases were registered with ACC in the first nine months of this year; out of which 142 cases were selected for further investigation. The commission reports that 170 cases were selected for further investigation within the first nine months of 2016.

ACC said it forwarded complaints filed with the commission which did not fit its mandate to relevant State authorities. The commission said it had forwarded 11 such cases to relevant authorities so far, this year.

The commission also said it dismissed 28 complaints which lacked sufficient information and did not fit the commission’s mandate this year. The number of such cases dismissed is an increase compared to the 18 such cases dismissed within the first nine months of 2016.
