Two suspects in a mugging after attacking with a sharp object has gone free after the period for pressing charges expires.
The mugging took place after a man walking on a road in Vilimalé was lured into a house and attacked with a knife before being mugged.
Effective from two months ago, a new criminal ruling states that charges must be pressed within 30 days after appearing in front of a judge. The law also states that if it is major crime, the Prosecutor General should give more time for the police to complete the investigation when requested. At the request, a maximum duration of 30 days.
Police were investigating the mugging involving a sharp object as a major crime.
Repeated attempts to contact the police for a comment regarding the case have been unsuccessful.
