Maldives Police Service has said that they have arrested two minors in relation to the fatal traffic collision in Hulhumalé City last Wednesday which resulted in the death of an elderly man.
Police media official said that one of the two minors has been put under house arrested for 15 days and the other one has been remanded into police custody for 15 days. Authorities did not reveal the ages of the minors.
ADK Hospital has confirmed the death of the 64-year-old Ibrahim Rasheed to Sun Media on Friday evening while undergoing treatment at the ICU.
The traffic collision took placed on Wedensday on Norolhu Magu, near Habib Bank, in Hulhumalé. Police said that the collision took place when a speeding motorcycle hit Ibrahim Rasheed and his motorcycle while he was parking.
And the other man involved in the collision left his vehicle behind and fled the scene.
The victim's family said that he was motionless when he was taken to the Hulhumalé Hospital.
According to the doctors, Rasheed went straight into surgery following the incident but he had sustained extensive damage to the head with skull fracture which had cause bleeding in to the brain. And so with surgery, doctor's couldn't save his life.
The family said that if the other person involved in the collision sincerely admit to the negligence and apologize, he would be forgiven. But if they are arrested by the police, they would not be forgiven by the family.
Article 112-A of the Penal Code states that causing a death by negligence as a crime and is punishable with a prison sentence of one year, seven months and six days to four years in prison.
