New Chinese Ambassador presents credentials to President

The new Chinese Ambassador to Maldives, Zhang Lizhong has presented his credentials to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

Ambassador Zhang presented his credentials in a function held at President’s Office this Monday morning.

President’s Office reported that President Yameen welcomed Ambassador Zhang to Maldives, and congratulated him on the commencement of his term.

President Yameen extended greetings from the government and people of Maldives to Chinese President Xi Jinping, his government, and the people of China. He also reiterated the commitment of his administration towards bolstering the bilateral ties between the two countries.

President Yameen, in his meeting with Ambassador Zhang, expressed appreciation for the assistance by China towards socio-economic development of Maldives, highlighting the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge Project and Velana International Airport Development Project.

He also reiterated the Maldivian government’s commitment to the One-China Policy, and expressed appreciation for China’s cooperation with Maldives in advancing mutual interests in the global arena.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Zhang conveyed greeting from President Xi and the government of China, and said he was impressed with the development trajectory of Maldives, and the openness towards foreign direct investment for development projects.

He pledged to enhance cooperation between the two countries by increasing trade, investment, and the number of Chinese tourists to Maldives.

He conveyed assurances to collaborate closely with the Government of Maldives to enhance the cooperation between China and the Maldives through increasing trade and investment as well as increasing the number of Chinese tourists to the Maldives.
