A cable service provider operating in L. Gan has been fined after it was found to be providing its services in violation of rebroadcasting rights.
The company, Pixel Vision Private Limited was fined MVR 296,000 following a complaint regarding the company filed with Maldives Broadcasting Commission.
Maldives Broadcasting Commission stated the rights to provide cable services in L. Gan have only been granted to Medianet and Haali Investment.
It said that Pixel Vision had the right to rebroadcast only eight channels, but that L. Gan Council had confirmed the company was rebroadcasting 148 channels.
The commission also said Pixel Vision was given sufficient opportunity to answer to the complaint, but that they had not done so.
Maldives Broadcasting Commission decided that Pixel Vision was proven to have been rebroadcasting channels it did not have the right to in Gan. The company has been asked to pay MVR 10,000 for each of the channels it rebroadcasted without the rights, totaling MVR 296,000 for the 148 channels.
The company has been instructed to pay the fine within one month.
