The Indian government has called on political parties of Maldives to exercise restraint and refrain from actions that might adversely affect peace and order in the country.
Indian paper Press Trust of India cited the official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs of India and said, “We are concerned at the recent reports indicating increased political tension in the Maldives. The Government of India appeals to all political parties to exercise restraint and to refrain from actions that might adversely impact the atmosphere of peace and tranquillity in the country.”
He noted that India has been closely monitoring the situation in the Maldives following the transfer of power on 7 February.
The article also said that India remains committed to extending "fullest" support to the Government of Maldives in its efforts to engage the leaders of various political parties in resolving the current situation.
Recently, the European Union and the Commonwealth have also expressed concern over the deteriorating political situation in the Maldives.
