Tomorrow's sitting cancelled due to fire

The parliament sitting for tomorro has been cancelled following a fire incident inside a toilet at the parliament building.

The message sent to the MPs said that the sitting has been delayed to restore the building to normalcy and to take the appropriate steps following such an incident.

And the date for the next sitting will be informed by the Speaker of the parliament in the future.

In an interview to Channel 13 following the fire, the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, the MP for Hulhu-Henveiru Moosa Manik (Riko) said that the fire was set to a plastic tissue dispenser at the toilet and it was completely melted.

While the fire has affected the wall and the tiles, the State Electric Company (STELCO) has ensured that the fire was not caused by an electric short.

No one was injured in the fire incident which took place around 6 p.m. today.

MP for the south Galolhu constituency, Ahmed Mahloof tweeted saying that there isn't a massive damage which calls to cancel the parliament sitting and questioned the vigilance of the MNDF officers in charge of the parliament security.
