Officer arrested attempting to smuggle drugs into prison

Police have arrested a prison officer stationed at Maafushi Prison for attempting to smuggle narcotics into the prison.

Police media official reported the authority arrested a 33-year-old man attempting smuggle narcotics into Maafushi Prison last Saturday, July 29.

“Sun” has been informed that the prison officer was stopped by police officers on his way to duty at the Prison, and arrested after he was searched.

Police media official reported the authorities found 5 rubber packets containing narcotics inside the right-side pocket of his pants.

He said the officer also tested positive for narcotics.

Maafushi Magistrate Court has remanded the officer to 15 days in police custody as the case is investigated by Maafushi Police Station.
