Presidential Commission established to recover embezzled funds

A Presidential Commission – Commission on State Asset Recovery - has been set up to recover embezzled State funds.

The announcement was made by Attorney General Mohamed Anil during a press conference held at President’s Office this Thursday morning.

Anil said relevant authorities had come short in their efforts, and that the purpose of the commission was to recover State funds in cases of embezzlement identified by Auditor General’s Office and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Members of the commission include:

1. Minister of Home Affairs, Ahmed Azleen

2. State Minister at President’s Office, Mohamed Mujthaaz

3. Khadheeja Hassan

4. Dr. Ibrahim Mahfooz

5. Ahmed Saleem (Renis Saleem)

Commission on State Asset Recovery will be reviewing work by authorities in recovering embezzled State funds, investigating cases of embezzlement, and taking necessary measures regarding such cases.

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has given the commission authority to conduct independent investigations into such cases.
