Group attempts attack on Minister Shaheem

Minister of Islamic Affairs Sheikh Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has reported that a gang attempted to attack him this afternoon.

In an SMS to media, Shaheem said that he was driving past Usfasgandu, when he was stopped by the gang.

“A group of MDP activists were hitting the car from all sides, and they tried to open the doors. They were acting in a very frightening manner,” Shaheem said.

According to Shaheem, this is the third time that he is the target of such attacks.

He said that he was saved by a group of Police officers who happened to be at the petrol shed near STELCO.

A Police Media Coordinator has confirmed that a gang attempted to attack Shaheem this afternoon near Usfasgandu.

The Police are investigating another incident some days ago, when a motorcycle deliberately ran into Shaheem’s car and broke its window.

Shaheem said that the attacks on him by members of MDP are motivated by anger.
