MVR 41.9 million as Airport Development Fee in the first month

That state has received MVR 41.9 million in the first month after introducing the Airport Development Fee (ADF) charged from passengers departing from Velana International Airport.

The bill to collect tax and a fee from passengers departing from any airport in the Maldives was passed into law late last year. The new charges had to be implemented by 1 May 2017 according to the law.

ADF is USD 12 from locals and USD 25 from foreigners.

Airlines have to pay the ADF to the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) at the end of every month.

Statistics released by MIRA for the month of June show an income of USD 2.8 million (MVR 43 million) as airport service charge.

ADP is a new revenue stream included in the state budget for this year. The fee was initially set to be charged equally from foreigners and locals, USD 25.

But it was later amended to charge USD 12 as ADF from locals.
