Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) says it cannot yet make a decision on Thimarafushi MP Mohamed Musthafa’s request to leave the party.
Deputy Secretary-General of PPM, Iqbal Adam wrote to Musthafa that the party will be providing an answer to his request after it’s done looking into an ethical complaint filed against him.
Musthafa tweeted this Wednesday that it was the legal right of each and every member of a political party to leave the party when he so wishes. He said he had presented all necessary documents to relevant officials.
The nine PPM parliamentary members who signed the petition for a no-confidence motion against Speaker of People’s Majlis, Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed have all sent letters to PPM and
Elections Commission requesting they be removed from the party membership. It is not yet clear if any of them have been officially removed from the party.
