New lightweight MVR 2 coin introduced to market

Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has introduced the new, lightweight MVR 2 coin to the market.

The new coin was introduced to the market by Governor of MMA, Dr. Azeema Adam, in a function held at MMA this Wednesday morning.

The coin is plated using nickel brass while the inside is made with nickel-plated steel.

The coin is 25.50 mm in circumference and weighs 6.20 grams.

MMA reports the coin can be used in transactions starting this Wednesday.
