Housing Ministry has given a seven-day notice to remove all private belongings from Usfasgandu, the area behind Dharubaaruge used by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to hold political activities.
Housing Ministry gave this notice through an announcement made today, which indicated that Usfasgandu will be cleared in order to implement the development plans for the area.
All private groups were hence advised to remove their belongings within seven days from Monday.
Housing Ministry’s announcement also states that clearing work at Usfasgandu will be carried out by a private company, and that an announcement will be made on Monday to hire a group for this work.
Usfasgandu was leased to MDP by Malé City Council. However the Cabinet has decided to withdraw the plots of land leased to Malé City Council as they are not being put to appropriate use.
Housing Ministry has made several futile attempts, some involving the Police, to remove Usfasgandu from MDP.
Usfasgandu has been used by MDP for nearly three months for political activities.
