Labor Relations Authority (LRA) reports the authority looked into 59 complaints regarding unpaid Ramadan allowance, and has ensured the money is paid in 41 of the cases.
Labor Act states that each Maldivian employee needs to paid MVR 3,000 as Ramadan allowance.
Deputy Minister of Economic Development Abdul Rasheed Nafiz – in charge of running LRA – reported to “Sun” this Wednesday that the authority received 46 complaints over unpaid
Ramadan allowance by Ramadan. Nafiz said the authority looked into the cases and ensured the allowance was paid in 41 of the cases, and was working on ensuring the allowance was paid in the five remaining cases at the moment.
He said LRA received 13 more complaints after Ramadan, and was looking into those cases as well.
It brings the total number of complaints over unpaid Ramadan allowance this year to 59.
“We get it after explaining the law to the employers. We believe the remaining people will get the allowance very soon,” said Nafiz.
Nafiz said LRA has not taken any legal action against any company, and was working on resolving the issues through discussion.
Companies which do not pay employees Ramadan allowance can be fined between MVR 5,000 – MVR 50,000.
