The expatriate arrested yesterday in relation to the murder of Ismail Umaru (Isseh), Lhaviyani Hinnavaru, an engineer at the Haa Alifu Ihavandhoo ice plant, has confessed to the crime.
A statement issued by the police today said that the 27-year-old Bangladeshi national, Shumon Mia confessed to the crime when he was questioned by the investigators.
Police said that the other four expatriates arrested are believed to be involved in murder of 54-year-old Isseh.
The knife used on the crime and the clothes Shumon Mia was wearing at the time have also been recovered by the police.
Police statement said that Isseh was reported missing on Friday around 4:23 p.m. and they were searching the MIFCO ice plant on the island when they discovered the body.
When the body taken to the health center, signs of multiple attacks with a sharp object was noticed.
The statement from the police said that the crime is being investigated as a serious matter and are doing all they can to bring those involved to justice.
