Minister of Gender and Family, Aminath Zenysha Shaheed Zaki has said that there still challenge facing women in the work environment.
The Minsiter said that even with the high number of female students achieving high awards in senior and higher secondary education, there are few women in the work environment and decision making level and there are prefered employment fields for women in the Maldives. She said that it remains so because there are challenges in the workplace for being a woman.
Minister Zenysha made the remarks in the launching ceremony of the book “Ranmuiy” by Hope for Women last night.
She said that empowered women would not only be bringing a positive impact to families but to the community and the nation.
Noting that even the Islamic faith has given women the same opportunity for education and earning as men, the Gender Minister said that everyone must work to guarantee an equal opportunity for men and women in different fields of employment.
And so the sectors with fewer women must be recognized and look into the challenges facing women in such sectors and support women to excel in their chosen fields.
Statistics show over 100 cases of domestic abuse and abuse against women in the first three months of the year while 90 percent of the cases are related to women.
At the ceremony last night, Minister Zenysha said that all obstacles to the empowerment of women must be removed and so women must be protected from all forms fo abuse.
